Eastertide
We look forward to Waka Hourua worshipping with us this Sunday as we continue the great fifty-day celebration that is the Season of Easter. This could also be a time to reflect on what our journey through Lent and Holy week has meant for us, to reflect on how the practices we undertook during Lent have helped us deepen our love for God as well as deepened us into God’s Love. Through Lent we focused on the spiritual disciplines of prayer, repentance, almsgiving and fasting. But these are not disciplines that we should relegate to a particular time of year. They are practices that should characterize the way we live as Christians all year.
Now as we ride the wave of celebration that comes from the knowledge that our Lord is Risen, we challenge ourselves to keep up our new found disciplines in that joy! The joy we experience at Easter is what we read of in the words of Catherine of Siena as she expresses her ever deepening love for God, whose love she seeks to enter increasingly deeply. “You are a mystery as deep as the sea; the more I search, the more I find, and the more I find the more I search for You. But I can never be satisfied; what I receive will ever leave me desiring more. When You fill my soul I have an ever-greater hunger, and I grow more famished for Your Light. I desire above all to see You, the true Light, as you really are.”
As we reflect on our celebration of 160yrs of prayer and praise here at St Marks, Catherine’s words become our own as together we continue our journey with our Lord and Saviour.
God Bless you
