The Judas Prayers
It’s great to back after having a terrific holiday. Armenia is a great country with wonderful people with an amazingly uplifting liturgical tradition but I am thankful to live in New Zealand far from the geopolitical tensions of that part of the world. Thank you to Rev Brenda and Rev Neil who led the services in my absence, to Mark for preaching last Sunday and to Anna who wrote the Pew Sheet letters (I tried to convince her to carry on the great work.....)
It’s wonderful that Waka Puhara are with us today to worship and pray together. One of the blessings of St Mark’s is the school and church being able to be as one, an extended whānau in Christ.
Looking ahead in the St Mark’s calendar there are a few things coming up that I would like to emphasise:
On the Friday 24th October in the evening, we have the launching of the book “The Judas Prayers” Prayers for tough times by Glennys Ward. Having previously seen a couple of the prayers I have been looking forward to this book for some time. I have now been lucky enough to see a copy of the published book and it is great. Definitely put this date in your diary and buy copies for yourselves and others. (Profits will be donated to the parishes of Opawa-St Martins and Oxford-Cust.)
The other event is the “Remembering Parihaka”, a free event on 29th October here at St Mark’s Church. This is a presentation and discussion commemorating the historical events of November 5th 1881 - the Crown invasion of Parihaka with its philosophy of peace and reconciliation through non-violence.
God Bless you
From the Vicar
God is praised as the one providing protection, both as a bird nesting her young, and as a shield from the glare of the sun.
Accept our sacrifice of thanksgiving and praise, which we make through Christ our great high priest
