First Sunday of Advent
Last Sunday we celebrated Christ the King and also Stir Up Sunday. It was great to see the children and their families getting involved in the cake making. We look forward to eating it!
This Sunday is the first Sunday of Advent and therefore the beginning of the Liturgical year in church we journey our way through Matthew’s Gospel account (Year A).
Advent is a time on which we focus on God’s presence with us. In Advent we look to Jesus “coming”. Jesus “coming” to be with us as a human being and the certainty that Jesus will “come” again when time ends. Advent teaches us that God is our source of Hope and the foundation of our love in our lives.
Eternity is often thought of as a future goal alone. But eternity enters creation, our time, through Jesus and Jesus brings all of creation into eternity. Therefore although eternity may be a goal such as “eternal life”, eternity is also present here and now.
Where Jesus is, eternity is - and eternity is amongst us now, although clearly not in all fullness due to the failings of us in the world. The season of Advent helps us realise the truth that eternal life, which we seek, is already happening because Christ is here with us now.
Advent is a time in which we look to increase our desire for God. Christ is always seeking a closer relationship with us in our lives, whatever they may look like. Advent is a time that we can recommit to turning to Christ, welcoming God’s love and therefore our Hope. For Hope in Christ is the guarantee that eternity is already present and life is enduring.
God Bless you
From the Vicar
Every April 25th we pay our respects to Australian and New Zealand soldiers who fought in World War I, at Gallipoli in Turkey. One of the best ways we can show respect to our fallen soldiers is by understanding the breadth of Anzac history.
You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; you anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows (Psalm 23)
We are all called to accept Jesus and proclaim the Good News of the Gospel to all people.
