The Source of Love
Last Saturday it was great to be in Timaru for my cousin’s wedding. The ceremony was outside, it was sheltered and hot but at times a slight breeze had some blossom floating around.
Weddings are wonderful occasions of family and food but primarily they are of God’s Blessing of a commitment and union of two people, growing in love through all the triumphs and trials that there will surely be. Thankfully when we enter into relationships like marriage, we don’t do it alone, because the power of love that is within us, that which makes life so worth living, is the very power of God.
God, who is love, is the source of our love. So the power of love that is within us is the power of God and with it the generosity and faithfulness through all that happens, as well as the power to give life and to restore it again, the ability to forgive and heal and reconcile, and its deep and strengthening joy. This we see in the gift of creative relationship and in the fullness of the servant love of Christ.
In this week’s psalm (Ps 98) the worshipping community gathered for worship is urged to join their voices to the song, praising God. The natural world is encouraged as well, the roar of the waves, the rush of river water, the echoing of the hills adding their sound to the voices giving praise to God.
The praise is exuberant. We too can rejoice in God’s past and present faithfulness to us, and look forward with certain hope to God’s coming reign on earth, when even the rivers and hills will shout and sing in his presence.
God Bless you
From the Vicar
Every April 25th we pay our respects to Australian and New Zealand soldiers who fought in World War I, at Gallipoli in Turkey. One of the best ways we can show respect to our fallen soldiers is by understanding the breadth of Anzac history.
You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; you anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows (Psalm 23)
We are all called to accept Jesus and proclaim the Good News of the Gospel to all people.
